Community centre saved from closure after volunteers form new committee

A Hampshire based community centre has been saved from closure after volunteers stepped forward to run the committee.....

Hatch Warren Community Centre in Basingstoke was under threat of closure after it was announced that the entire committee running it was stepping down due to “work and personal circumstances”.

Portland Senior Manager Nicola Layland, who has been appointed as Treasurer of the new committee, said,
“The committee stepping down could have resulted in eight jobs being at risk of redundancy and dozens of groups, including school clubs, Brownies, Rainbows, blood donor sessions and dance classes, being without a venue. This has come as a huge relief to the local community who have used the venue for various clubs and as a place to socialise with neighbours and local residents”.
